Photographer, storyteller and founder of Tung Tang Studio

​

Hello, I’m Tung, a professional photographer based near Oxford, working across portraiture, events, commercial lifestyle photography and cultural documentation.

​

For more than ten years, my photography has been driven by curiosity about people: how they connect, how they express themselves and what happens when they feel genuinely comfortable in front of the camera.

​

My particular strength is the atmosphere I create. I help people forget about the camera, relax and become fully present with one another. That is where the honest smiles, small gestures and meaningful photographs come from.

​

The story behind Tung Tang Studio

Before creating Tung Tang Studio, I independently led more than 1,300 portrait sessions with families, newborns, couples and pets in an established British professional portrait studios.

​

I managed the complete photographic experience, from understanding each family and planning their session to designing the lighting, building rapport, offering direction and creating a varied collection of images. I was also responsible for training and mentoring other photographers and was honoured to receive an Employee of the Year award for my contribution, professionalism and support for colleagues.

​

That experience became the foundation of Tung Tang Studio: premium family portraiture, brought closer to home.

​

I believe a portrait session should be more than an hour spent posing for photographs. It should be time set aside for people to play, connect, celebrate their relationships and enjoy being together. The photographs preserve that experience, but the experience itself matters too.

​

The Works

Alongside the Studio, The Works brings together the wider range of photography I undertake, including events, environmental portraiture, commercial lifestyle, product and brand photography, and cultural documentation.

​

My commercial imagery has been licensed internationally and used by organisations including HSBC, American Express, Barclays and Citibank.

​

My photography has been exhibited internationally, and my cultural work includes photography and video installation for the 300 Years of Hakka Kung Fu exhibition. My work has also been exhibited and collected by the University of Cambridge Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology. Recent Oxford projects have included cultural event photography connected with Fusion Arts and the Moleskine Foundation.

My approach

I combine a documentary eye with confident direction, thoughtful lighting and a clear understanding of what each client needs.

​

I look for the honest moments and visual details that reveal something genuine, while bringing the technical discipline required to work calmly and consistently in demanding environments.

​

Before photography became my principal career, I worked in Hong Kong’s recording industry as a studio manager and audio mixing engineer, mixing songs for some of the city’s leading recording artists, as well as feature-film scores and soundtracks. Working at that level taught me to listen deeply, interpret a creative vision, remain calm under pressure and refine countless small details until the whole piece felt right. I bring that same discipline, sensitivity and collaborative spirit to every photographic commission.

Whether I am photographing a family, a business, an Oxford institution or a cultural community, my purpose remains the same: to create thoughtful, technically accomplished photographs that feel human and carry a clear sense of meaning.
